借助「平行宇宙」设定，自如地把多种画风拿捏在同一画面之中，这样允许艺术家肆意挥洒创意与风格的混合无论看多少次都觉得惊叹和感动，这确凿无疑就是动画体裁才能创造的作品。有趣的是，电影中不同宇宙有着不同画风，演出手法也会随着宇宙改变而侧重不同，但并没有那么泾渭分明，无论是极富表现力也呼应人物状态的漫符，还是把环境作为人物内心世界的外化的手法，都贯彻电影始终，即画布上出现的一切元素、色彩、线条、律动，无一不是为情节或人物服务的。这其中有一个桥段相当值得一提，故事后半段迈尔斯传送回家，电影想要玩一个叙事上的诡计，误导观众他的确回到了自己那个宇宙，但 42 号宇宙画风硬朗，观众其实可以通过画风来识破诡计。所以电影特意顺应迈尔斯此刻巨大的精神波动，在周遭环境大作演出，实际是用内心世界外化的手法来骗过观众。
