(@Some_Emo_Chick) "touched" on the problems of HMI (human-machine interface) designs.
It reminded me of former prime minister Wim Kok [1] of the Netherlands, when, in 1998, an 11 years old girl told him to move the mouse to "Bookmarks" on a laptop screen. He lifted up the mouse in order to put it on the screen (showing Netscape Navigator).
CONTEXT
This happened during a long interview by Astrid Joosten [2] with a live audience.
Because Wim Kok's political party (#PvdA) planned to invest in computer education, the presenter wanted to know how proficient Wim Kok himself was operating computers. For this particular part of the interview, he was locked up in a big box on stage - while the presenter questioned his staff regarding his IT knowledge (which they said was close to zero).
Next Wim Kok was asked to open up a window in the box, revealing an 11 years old schoolgirl on the other side. She introduced herself (on screen: "Tiba Tossijn [3], 11 years old, internet expert") and asked Wim Kok to look at the home page of her school on a laptop in front of him. She then asked him to write an email and they agreed upon sending it to Simon Peres (Israel's former prime minister at the time).
This can be seen (in Dutch) in https://youtube.com/watch?v=NtBtWjTdL_g starting at 35:55, the screenshot below was made at approx. 39:48.
As of today, Astrid Joosten still presents a weekly quiz on TV called "Twee voor twaalf" (two to twelve) [4], while Wim Kok passed away in 2018.
Looking back, times have changed enormously - while HMI's could still improve a lot.
