Open-Source was the one which enabled AI copilots. Without the large open-source public codebases copilots would have been dumber or would have taken more time to develop at the point they are today.
Not open sourcing because it will be stolen by AI companies is like poisoning the water supply because one day it might get privatized.
The problem is the theft, not the availability of the resource.
@mapache Yeah, I have to side with @MegaMichelle on this one.
I see the same argument being made about not adding alt text to images posted online as that can be used to train AI. This is especially a concern for artists sharing their own work.
And I 100% get it. But I don't want to capitulate and live in a world where we give up on contributing to our shared culture, and lock people out of enjoying it with us.
Definitely a problem that has to be addressed at its root.
