By giving Elon Musk’s engineers access to USAID’s entire digital network, including personal information for thousands of employees, the Trump administration may have violated the Privacy Act of 1974, three experts told ProPublica.
@ProPublica being immune from prosecution and being allowed to do anything are, in theory anyway, two different things. We’ll see how courts decide. They may find it was illegal but Trump cannot be held liable.
May...
@ProPublica We're a country of law and order, supposedly.
Lawsuits, we need more lawsuits
@ProPublica Time for a class action lawsuit. Representative Jamie Raskin is working in it. He discussed it this morning on MSNBC. #class_action_lawsuits #ClassAction
@ProPublica
A more relevant question is ‘is the breach recognised by the authorities’.
Norms are dead. We are beyond the law now. The only thing that matters is the interpretation of any of the law, and that is entirely political.
@ProPublica I'm sure they did.
@ProPublica Now who will enforce it? #FelonTrump #TrumpIsAFacist
@ProPublica And what is America doing about this? Because the law only works when you uphold it.
@ProPublica Prosecute now before the law becomes the Republic Of Trumpistan!
@ProPublica They don't give a shit about the law anymore. They're above the law now. They won't be stopped without a violent revolution.
@ProPublica As soon as Trump is out of office everyone involved at DOGE is going to prison for a very long time.
@ProPublica ‘may have’ 🙄
@ProPublica N + 1 on "they may have violated a law!"
since there are no consequences...
@ProPublica published an article titled
In Breaking USAID, the Trump Administration May Have Broken the Law.
The emphasis is mine.
As journalists especially, writers know that word choice matters. The article clearly presents that the administration is violating the Privacy Act of 1974 and other laws. That's the analysis. "May Have" is softening, it hedges, it tries to weasel out of saying what's substantiated—and it is therefore flat wrong. Instead, the word should be "Has."
In Breaking USAID, the Trump Administration Has Broken the Law.
Good article. Stop with the Cover You Ass wording.

@ProPublica and? Since when these people actually suffer any consequences? Never, because majority of the population wants this, they either actively support it as MAGA etc or pretending they are better than MAGA by staying home and not voting to get the same outcomes. Don't forget the minority of morons who didn't think it will happen and now are getting found out.
@ProPublica The only punishment these fascists will see will have to come from the citizens of this nation. They’ve proven they’re above the law. When law fails us… well, you know the rest.
@ProPublica May have? Paleez...
