BREAKING: A bunch of U.S. Digital Service employees (including me) were fired tonight. It's still unclear exactly how many. There is no visibility whatsoever into what determined who was let go. Legacy USDS (i.e., pre-DOGE) leadership was not involved in the decision about whom to let go and was not notified in advance that people were going to be fired.

Before I was fired tonight, I was in charge of information security for VA.gov, which has millions of users per month and stores and processes huge amounts of veterans' personal information. I've been told by people I've worked with that I'm the best at what I do of anyone they've ever worked with. Now there will be _no one_ in charge of information security for VA.gov.
Does this seem like improving government efficiency?

@jik It seems illegal and that you must have options to pursue if you're so inclined? Speaking as someone outside of government, it seems unbelievably weird and improbable that folks like you could just be fired without cause and not have any way to contest it if you wanted to. Is that really how it works?
@abucci Legal action is being looked into, but realistically, that's not going to get Trump impeached, and as long as he's in the White House recourse is limited.
@jik I understand. I'm sure you've all thought of this, but it just seems that since so many people are being affected, a mass action--whether that's a class action lawsuit or some other form--would actually have some hope of succeeding. Hanging all hope on impeaching Trump feels like a "the perfect is the enemy of the good" kind of thing.
