At the time her mother, enka singer Fuji Keiko, and father, music record producer Utada Teruzane, formed the unit U3 with her and released the album Star. This single release features two of the album's songs, THANK YOU and Kodomo Tachi no Uta ga Kikoeru. 宇多田ヒカル、宇多田照寛(父)、圭子(母)と親子3人で結成したユニットU3（ユースリー）のシングル「9歳の想い出」が、8月21日にニューセンチュリーレコードからリリース決定。
