《血孩子》和《恩典》会让我想起《莉莉丝的孩子》，少数人类混居在外星人中间，前者展现了一种家庭模式、生殖方式，后者是人类对异族顽固的敌意和等级观念。《黄昏、清晨、夜晚》和《语音》则会想起《地球之种》，超感官综合征和瘟疫后的逃亡。 巴特勒的书有种冷峻的气质，让人感到不舒服，故事不会顺利发展，外界的环境很糟糕，人与人之间的感情也很微妙，而她笔下的女性主角总是很坚定，有特殊的能力，能够掌握自己。
