@octothorpe Certainly true. But my point is, if a site claims to be crowdsourced, but has a "behind the scenes" finger on the scales, that's bullshit.
@davemark I hear you, but it never really has been and there’s never been true transparency. The owners are not accountable in any way. DF isn’t the first to be weighted, and won’t be the last.
Ultimately, I think the issue as you point out, is the owners giving the illusion of transparency and egalitarianism, when that has never been the case. But the onus is also on us to realise without full transparency and zero editorial control you can’t have that… but also we wouldn’t really want that.
@octothorpe @davemark My issue and reason for calling it out is the hypocrisy / deception. HN readers clearly, strongly believe that HN moderation is almost entirely transparent and user-driven. HN’s admins clearly want them to wrongly believe that.
