从谷崎的《细雪》可以略窥见战时及将近尾声时期关西地区的传统的婚姻有关的思想风貌。雪子是传统女性的代表，经过五次相亲才勉强寻得门当户对的对象。妙子追求自由恋爱，坎坷非常甚至不惜与本家断绝关系。不论雪子妙子园子洋子，说到底人们都是为自己搏利，无论是现实中的利益关系或是精神上的快乐满足，为此在所不惜，一反顺忍的形象。但是将这个故事放到女性甚至说人们追求爱情与幸福的观念发展的历史背景里看就不会显得那么不堪。电影最后园子说在其死后化为灰烬，只有子宫留下也未可知。如今看来，传统观念还是有所改变的。
