@fedicat Oh, it could be weird inside-code behavior (waaaaay beyond me!) that’s adding a 2nd hashtag? Totally never mind!! 
@wendinoakland I see the official pixelfed app does display trending tags properly, so it should work if make some adjustments when I read the data. If you're curious, this is the mastodon spec for how the data is returned (note the tag names are returned with no #) and I'm guessing that's not the case with pixelfed but I'll have to take a closer look.
