@rl_dane (additional context: the word 'gimp' also refers to a type of plasticky thread, which is where I first heard it. That is, _as an art supply_. So when I heard about GIMP the program, it sounded like a good name to me.

The insistence on universalizing personal feelings of offense into the assertion that the term in itself is _offensive_ is such a harmful attitude IMO that it actually pushes me from ambivalence towards being positive towards GIMP as a name.)

That's the "white neoliberal with more time than sense" kind of attitude I alluded to before.

Not that I'm accusing anyone here of that. It just kinda whiffs of it in general.

But I can respect someone wanting the name to not have negative associations/connotations for noble reasons.

Every time I've had a confrontation with a "neoliberal" it felt like arguing with a "far right" individual. Closed mindedness is closed mindedness, no matter what views you have.
