Wait.. am I missing something? Mastodon.social does over 100k posts daily but has “only” 225k monthly active users? That doesn’t seem right to me. I would guess most users that are active don’t post that regularly. Can you help me understand please? 🙏
yeah the stats feel strange for sure
it does sorta like up with bluesky though: 650k posts per day and 1M MAU on bluesky, which is a pretty similar ratio of posts per day to MAU

@laurenshof @matej_svancer i would expect bots to have an outsized impact on posts per day vs. MAU if neither network bothers to filter them out of reported stats
@matej_svancer @laurenshof and Mastodon never has, so anything reading NodeInfo or instance API numbers is looking at fiction
@vyr @matej_svancer neither does bsky since its firehose data, so at least the data is borked on both sides of the comparison :D
