Celebrating the Silk Road: Chicago festival, this album unites the CSO with cellist Yo-Yo Ma, pipa-player Wu Man, and the Silk Road Ensemble. Yo-Yo Ma is featured in Ernest Bloch’s Schelomo, and Wu Man plays a concerto for her instrument by American maverick Lou Harrison. Alan Gilbert conducts the CSO on its own in Prokofiev’s clangorous Scythian Suite.
