There is much pleasure to derived from the raptness of the Viennese strings in the slow movement and the boyish freshness and charm of Frederica von Stade in the fourth movement. I must say, right away, that at this tempo the Vienna Philharmoniker are quite sublime. The playing of the derived strings is breathtakingly beautiful, warm, pure and intense in a way that no other string section, not even that of the Berliners, could hope to surpass, __Gramophone
