This volume is dedicated to the beloved Iraqi singer and intellectual Salah Abdel Ghafour (b. 1952), who is heard here on tracks A5, C3 and D1. Sadly, a car accident in Erbil took his life in April, 2013. Salah was Iraqi of Kurdish origin. He had achieved international fame, and recorded dozens of albums - many of them focusing on Iraqi Maqam and heritage music.
The tracks on this collection were selected from Iraqi cassette-tapes and discs found throughout Syria and the Iraqi neighborhoods of Detroit, Michigan between 1995-2010
