“A lullaby for beauty and sadness” is an apt the description of the music written by Eugen Doga for the movie “the Gypsy Camp goes to Heaven” directed by Emil Loteanu.
“The Gypsy Camp goes to Heaven” was the leader of movie visits in the USSR in the year 1976, with a total of 64,9 million viewers in that year alone. A creator of three ballets "Lucheaferul” (Luceafărul), “Venancia”, “Queen Margot”, the opera “Dialogues of Love”, more than 100 instrumental and choral works – symphonies, 6 quartets, “Requiem”, church music, and other, plus music for 13 plays, radio shows, more than 200 movies, more than 260 songs and romances, more than 70 waltzes; he is also the author of works for children, the music for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games in 1980 in Moscow. The waltz written for the movie “A Hunting Accident “, became widely known and was performed at the opening of two Olympic Games – in 1980 and 2014.
He had a non-stop active concert and social life, created in Chisinau the Music salon “Eugen Doga”, which goal was to unite people through art and communication.
He received the following awards: People's Artist of the USSR, a laureate of the State Prize of the USSR, Commendatore “Stars of Romania”, the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland”, the Order “Danaker”, among others. Academician of several academies. About his 8 books were written and 6 movies made, among television programs.
Two waltzes by Eugen Doga are included in the top 200 best classical works of all time.
In honor of Eugen Doga a minor planet was named – №10504 Doga.
