The romantic-depressive Bavarian fairytale King Ludwig II, his life and his still mysterious death, have always fascinated people. The musical all-round talent Konstantin Wecker, supported by Christopher Franke, the composer of the highly successful German electronic formation Tangerine-Dream, and the Bremen author Rolf Rettberg took the story of the unfortunate King Ludwig, of Sisi, his adjutant Count Dürckheim and his Psychiatrist Dr. Gudden before.
At alarm clock this new Ludwig musical starts from the back. In flashbacks, the life of Louis is told, beginning with the joyless childhood, ending with his mysterious death. On the CD, the original cast of the musical can be heard, which can be seen in the Festspielhaus in Neuschwanstein. The handsome Jan Ammann sings the Ludwig softly and heartfelt desperately, the attractive Janet Chvatal is a tender, sweet Sisi, as well as the other singers and the Ludwig choir are pleasant to listen to. For Ludwig and Sisi, the composer team came up with some pretty melodic arches, the usual marching music sounds like a declaration of war, otherwise the 19 songs on the CD do not offer any big surprises. Conclusion: There are mostly nice, catchy melodies, sung by vocal consistently convincing singers, where you talk pretty well. But maybe you have to have seen the musical on stage to truly appreciate the music.
