Time-Life's AM Gold: The Early '60s is a fun and well-chosen disc that mixes together many different styles and comes up with a set that almost makes sense out of a very confusing time in American pop history. Just the fact that the Singing Nun, the Drifters, Marty Robbins and the Four Seasons share space here gives some feel for how wide open things were. Elsewhere there are tracks by Timi Yuro ("The Incredible Hurt"), Bobby Vee ("Rubber Ball"), Neil Sedaka ("Calendar Girl"), Linda Scott ("I've Told Every Little Star") and Gene Pitney ("Town Without Pity") to keep things light and interesting. While it is by no means a definitve look at the early '60s, the disc does provide an opening that fans of the underappreciated era can use to begin their exploration. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
