A Summerday by the Lake

Orchestra du Soleil furnish the soundtrack for beautiful summer. Cool bossa for hot days, abstract pop for tepid nights. Chocolata ... orangiata ... seaweed ... this is music for 35-Ý C, music for lazing about in the grass, idly fingering a blade or two, while swallows circle above in the afternoon sun and from somewhere just out of sight, comes the sound of nymphs splashing in the reeds. Or the sound of a 60's night club siren - that would be Silvie's voice. Stefane is the man with the honeyed voice. Together, Silvie and Stefane (with help from Carl Oesterhelt of Merricks/FSK/Carlo Fashion fame) fashion a hypnotic frame of musique concrete soundscapes which subtly build to multi-layered pop crescendos. This album is a sonic trip, a technicolor soap bubble journey through time, replete with electronic rain and leaky tablas, ideal for night time listening, eyes closed, ears wide open. For fans of 60's fantasy pop from "Pet Sounds" to "A Saucerful of Secrets", but also for fans of today's cosmopolitan gems: Louis Philippe, High Llamas, and Munich's modern "strange-pop" scene (Merricks, etc...). If it is possible to be elegant and spaced out at the same, Orchestra du Soleil have created the blueprint.
