sinopsis

A small step up from "This Is Your Bloody Valentine", "Geek!" is average punk / post-punk at best. What killed MBV's earlier work was Conway's vocal resemblances to singers such as Ian Curtis and Glenn Danzig. On "Moonlight" Conway's voice is so deep he starts to sound like a "death-bed country icon". However, Conway isn't My Bloody Valentine's Fred Durst (they don't even have one). He's simply not that bad. The pivotal moment for Conway (as well as the the release as a whole) is the fun sex-appeal of "Love Machine". Sadly, Kevin Shields back-up vocals outweigh Dave's vocals in terms of quality not relevance to the song. It makes one wonder if MBV's earlier work would have been superior if they were an "oh-ah" band. At least they'd be using the "voice is an instrument" idea used on "Loveless".
