The Golden Compass

Lyra has spent her life running wild across the rooftops of Jordan College with her best friend, Roger, nearly always by her side. But now Roger has disappeared, and Lyra and her daemon, Pan, suspect that he may have been stolen by gobblers -- child snatchers who take their prey north to do unspeakable things.<br /><br />But Lyra will brave it all -- armored bears, powerful witch clans, and a mysterious substance called dust -- and Pan will take the form of a lion, a falcon, a wolverine, whatever it takes to get Roger back.
