Isamu Noguchi: "I am not a designer"

"Organized by the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, 'Isamu Noguchi: "I am not a designer"' is the first exhibition and publication in over twenty years dedicated to the expansive if often overlooked design practices of Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988). Coinciding with the fiftieth anniversary of Playscapes, Noguchi's only playground in the United States realized during his lifetime, it reexamines the artist-designer's complex, diverse output in architecture, ceramics, furniture, industrial design, landscape design, lighting, sculpture, and stage sets. New scholarship more fully contextualizes this work within his so-called fine art practice while also prioritizing the significance of his many collaborations with architects, clients, designers, fabricators, and manufacturers"-- Page 4 of cover.
