Laëtitia ou la fin des hommes

Dans la nuit du 18 au 19 janvier 2011, Laëtitia Perrais a été enlevée à 50 mètres de chez elle, avant d’être poignardée et étranglée. Elle avait 18 ans. Comment peut-on réduire la vie de quelqu’un à sa mort, au crime qui l’a emporté ? Pendant deux ans, Ivan Jablonka a rencontré les proches de la jeune fille, sa soeur jumelle, ses parents, ses amis, les responsables des services sociaux, ainsi que l’ensemble des acteurs de l’enquête, avant d’assister au procès du meurtrier, en octobre 2015. Il a ainsi reconstitué l’histoire de Laëtitia. Il a étudié le fait divers comme un objet d’histoire, et la vie de Laëtitia comme un fait social, et ce faisant, il poursuit son projet d’exploration des frontières entre littérature, histoire et sciences sociales. Ce livre est une expérience d’écriture autant qu’une enquête, destinée à rendre à Laëtitia sa singularité et sa dignité.
In the hours between January 18 and 19, 2011, Laëtitia Perrais was kidnapped fifty meters from her parents’ home, before being stabbed and strangled to death. She was eighteen. How can we reduce someone’s life to her death, to the crime that took her away? Over the course of two years, Ivan Jablonka met with this young girl’s family, her twin sister, her parents, her friends, the social services workers, as well as the whole cadre of actors from the investigation, before attending the trial of the murderer in October 2015. He has thus reconstructed Laëtitia’s story. He studied this news item as an object of history, and Laëtitia’s life as a social fact, thus pursuing his project of exploring the frontiers between literature, history, and social science. This book is a writing experience as much as an investigation, aimed at giving back to Laëtitia her singularity and her dignity.
