Rubens Gerchman: O Rei do Mau Gosto (2022)

It takes more than industries, highways, and economic plans to make a country. Nation-building also requires images. The visual artist Rubens Gerchman (1942–2008) captured that need by producing scenes of urban and everyday life that made a value of Brazilian precarity. Covering the years 1963 to 1978, the documentary follows the artistic and political activity of a generation that knew how to create images (from the pop to the conceptual) of a Brazil that was ceasing to be predominantly rural and was experiencing the harshest years of its political existence.
