Misfortune brings Anatoly, a lonely sailor, to meet Claudia, who comes to his house to help bury his mother. Although he sees her as a calculating person at first, he soon begins to realize he is deeply mistaken.

After the death of her husband, Tamara gave her daughter Olya to an orphanage and left for the North. There she creates a new family and, years later, calls the matured girl back. Not finding love in her mother's house, Olga left for a Siberian construction site with the plumber Roman. But the first difficulties frightened him, and he left her, never knowing that Olga was expecting a child.

Anna Georgievna Smirnova is a serious, businesslike and judicious person. It was these strengths of her character that helped the woman achieve high career results. Anna is a deputy and director of a textile factory in the Moscow region, who has long put an end to her personal life. She lives with her elderly mother. Her husband died, and her only daughter, Irina, is married. But suddenly, in a sanatorium in the southern resort of Anna, she meets a man named Volodya. He is a Muscovite, a former pilot, and now a driver. Volodya is younger than Anna, behind him two unsuccessful marriages. Between already middle-aged people a feeling of mutual sympathy erupts.

The heroes of the film are students of a pedagogical university, those who, after a year or two, have to carry knowledge to schoolchildren, "to sow the rational, good, eternal." In the meantime, student practice. True, the practice is not quite ordinary, because for the first time students leave far from the walls of their own university, for the first time they meet with students in the classroom not in the presence of their teachers, those with whom life encounters them daily at the institute, but with those who have been working for more than a year at school.

Hijinks ensue when an amateur filmmaker, financially reliant on video piracy, must reshoot all the movies from a film festival before time runs out.

The film follows the chance encounter between two teenagers in crisis - Olesya and Victor. They both feel trapped and are looking for their way out. Olesya ran away from home and is waiting for her father to step off the train from Riga, while Victor desperately wants to get to Riga, or to some other place where people are truly good.
