Manousos is the biggest child of a poor and crowded family living in the province. After finishing his term, he decides to work in Athens to help his mother. His friends and acquaintances are detestable, but he will find work as a singer in a nightclub. Soon she knows success and marries Eleni. But her brother wants to spoil their happiness.

An unemployed man poses as a housekeeper to stay afloat; but, his fiancée starts to suspect something, the gardener wants more of "her", and his employer's scheming cousins want everything for themselves. Can he get out of the tight spot?

A dark atmosphere pervades this film in true noir fashion. So does the feeling that our principals are trapped. They fight their way against economic forces and their status in life, and love might conquer all.

A cynical young man, Giorgos, who believes that in this life you need to steer clear of principles and attachments, clashes with his father, captain Manolis and abandons the management of the family’s shipyard. Determined to build his life again, he gets a job as a waiter in a large hotel and believes that he can also get rich by taking advantage of the sorrows and the loneliness of the wealthy.
