Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Richard Strauss’s popular stage production was adapted for the screen by CALIGARI director Robert Wiene in 1925. The reconstruction of the film undertaken by the Filmarchiv Austria together with ZDF/arte is the first to take the original score into account. The result was a much celebrated restaging of DER ROSENKAVALIER on 6th September 2006 in Dresden’s Semperoper, and it is now being presented to audiences here in Vienna.
