For 19 years, critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Mark Kozelek has toured solo and as front man of both Red House Painters and Sun Kil Moon. If You Want Blood Douban
Mark Kozelek genre: Folk
release date 2002-12-11 publisher: Musica Alternativa Cat
Mark Kozelek (born 1967 in Massillion, Ohio) is an American singer/songwriter and frontman of Sun Kil Moon and Red House Painters.
Originally a lynchpin of the sadcore movement in alternative rock with Red House Painters, Kozelek's harrowing autobiographical lyrics gave unflinchingly detailed accounts of pain, despair and loss while the lengthy accompanying music was slow, intense, dissonant and bleak. As time has passed, his music has become more acoustic and folk-inflected, while his lyrics now seem obsessed with memory, geography and those who died before their natural time, arguably best demonstrated on Sun Kil Moon's Ghosts of the Great Highway.
Kozelek was a troubled child, born in Ohio and allegedly addicted to drugs by the age of 10. He entered rehab a few years later and clung to music and songwriting to get him through the days.

"Kozelek's sparse, haunting delivery can render even the basest material achingly affecting, and coarse classics such as "Love Hungry Man" and "Bad Boy Boogie" are reinvented here as taut maudlin masterpieces. Kozelek's art is paramount. - Q Magazine

Rock 'N' Roll Singer Douban
Mark Kozelek genre: Folk
release date 2000-08-15 publisher: Badman Records
As the beating heart of the criminally overlooked Red House Painters, Mark Kozelek occasionally indulged in deconstructed cover versions of unlikely songs in which the source material was almost (and beautifully) unrecognizable. On his first solo album, he covers three AC/DC songs and a John Denver gem, throwing in a handful of his own compositions for balance. A Badman Records release.
