在奥伦道夫的努力下，埃里克获准在瑞典为德国“建设”炼油厂，于是得到了参观德国石油工厂的机会，一次，埃里克与奥伦道夫目睹纳粹绞死罢工工人的场面，被深深触动，开始由被迫工作转向自觉行动。他们的情报使盟军得以准确轰炸，令德国损失惨重。
一段时间后，奥托因病去世，由于密信可能泄露，盟军情报机关决定停止埃里克小组的活动。但埃里克惦念玛丽亚娜，同时也为了取回至关重要的纳粹航空燃料生产情报，他毅然再次前往德国。埃里克一到柏林就被关进盖世太保监狱，并亲眼看到因身份暴露被捕的玛丽亚娜殉难。但他强忍悲痛，咬定自己只是玛丽亚娜的情人，盖世太保没有证据只好放人。
埃里克从格哈德处拿到情报，又前往汉堡销毁奥托的密信，不料被跟随的盖世太保察觉。埃里克机智逃脱，并与汉堡的盟国谍报网取得联系，在地下组织和丹麦百姓的帮助下，埃里克越过边境，经哥本哈根渡过海峡，安全返回瑞典。

Immensee: ein deutsches Volkslied (Immensee: A German Folksong) is a German film melodrama of the Nazi era, directed in 1943 by Veit Harlan and loosely based on the popular novella Immensee (1849) by Theodor Storm. It was a commercial success and, with its theme of a woman remaining faithful to her husband, was important in raising the morale of German forces; it remained popular after World War II.

At the Olympic games in Berlin 1936 Inge Wagner falls in love with Luftwaffenleutnant (Airforce Lieutenant) Herbert Koch. They want to marry, but he receives orders to go to Spain - incognito, without permission for any contacts to his friends and relatives. Inge is still waiting for him. After the beginning of WW II, German radio starts broadcasting the "Wunschkonzert für die Wehrmacht" - a program made of wishes from the soldiers. He hears the song, he wanted to hear, and so does Inge. A friend of Inge, who hopes she is willing to marry him, comes to the same squadron where Koch flies. Koch and Inge arrange a date at a Hamburg restaurant, but he and Ilse's friend are shot down the day before. In the hospital Koch finds out, that he and his friend love the same girl. He thinks they are already engaged and is willing to give her up.

Aels, a rich and tempermental woman from the North, moves to Hamburg. She lives in a mansoin besides the newly married couple, Alrecht and Octavia. The friendship between Aels and Albrecht does not disturb the harmony of this marriage. But soon, Aels has a reoccurrence of a tropical disease, and because she is confined to bed, Albrecht rides by each day on his horse to her window and inquires as to her health. When, eventually, he gets sick with an epidemic, his wife takes over this dear service and greets Aels in her riding clothes, pretending to be Albrecht and comforting the sick woman, so as to not worry her about Albrecht also being sick. Aels, however, is not completely fooled and ends up dying of a broken heart. It turns out, she cannot live without Albrecht's love -something Albrecht only finds about from her last letter to him before her death.
