Also released as Montana Mike, Heaven Only Knows is an offbeat western with fantasy overtones. Hard-bitten gambling boss Brian Donlevy rules his frontier community with brawn and bullets. To his dismay, Donlevy discovers that he has a guardian angel (Robert Cummings), who shows up in the guise of an Eastern tenderfoot. The angel has been sent from Above to save Donlevy's soul, and to that end encourages the one-time villain to squire a minister's daughter (Jorja Curtwright) rather than his usual dance-hall girls. Donlevy is also given tips on winning against his enemies without resorting to gunplay. The gambler finally redeems himself with Heaven by rescuing the angel from a lynch mob (how can you lynch an angel?) Heaven Only Knows deserves an "E" for Effort for bringing a fresh twist to the venerable western genre.

Lt. Andre Saint-Avit, an officer of the French Foreign Legion, is discovered unconscious in the Sahara Desert after three month's absence. While searching for a missing archaeologist in Algeria's Hoggar Mountains, he and his partner, Capt. Jean Morhange, had been captured and confined to the lost kingdom of Atlantis. Queen Antinea, its immortal ruler, had a penchant for taking a series of lovers. Later, when each falls out of her favor, she embalms and gold plates them to create ornamental statues. Sometime after his arrival, Andre is summoned by Antinea and seduced. He is totally blitzed with her. Eventually, when she tires of him, she next calls for his partner Jean. Jean seems able to resist her charms, but Andre does not know this. Antinea manages to make Andre think otherwise. In a fit of jealousy, Andre kills Jean and manages to flee. Although back home he confesses to his killing Jean, his superiors give his tale no credence. They acquit him. Then, a rider from Atlantis shows up at the fort bearing a familiar necklace.

In 1853, as the British and Russian empires compete to gain and maintain their place in the dreadful Great Game of political intrigues and alliances whose greatest prize is the domination of India and the border territories, Major Geoffrey Vickers must endure several betrayals and misfortunes before he can achieve his revenge at the Balaclava Heights, on October 25, 1854, the most glorious day of the Crimean War.

It's a tale of power and passions when a Russian siren, who wants the finer things in life, sinks her hooks into a judge, a decadent aristocrat and an estate superintendent, with surprising results.
