Story of the owners (Mastroianni and Schygulla) of a fancy nightclub in Budapest before and during WWII.

Two old women who happen to be pickpockets stole money from Simon, the taxi driver. The police are unable to find the thieves, so Simon decides to find them himself.

At a gas station in the middle of nowhere, a young man arrives to meet his father he hasn't seen for 30 years. On the same day, a van with four prostitutes breaks down at the very same gas station, on the way to Switzerland. The three days they spend together in the station change their lives forever.

The script centres around Fáni, a young woman aged 30 who gave up on falling in love long ago because of her troubled past. But one day, a black cat starts courting her. Although Fáni is a successful architect, she remains a little girl at heart, and she falls under the spell of this macho cat, even though she’s the only person who hears his voice. This unusual romance unfolds with strange twists and turns, until Fáni loses almost everything that was important to her because of the narcissistic cat. Meanwhile, she doesn't even notice that Mihály, the cat's charming owner, is also courting her…

Enikős and Dorkas marriage is unbearable. Hysterical, cruel and humiliating scenes are enacted in front of the childrens eyes, while the childless Barbara is held by her husband, the painter, to be a toy and sometimes a painting screen.

A focus on the tormented lives of intellectuals who failed to protest recent troubles in their homeland. Jancsó emphasizes highly evocative and ambiguous imagery over dialog or exposition as he – through visually fascinating imagery – depicts the painful, stunted lives of Hungary's intellectuals who have remained silent and ineffectual during various political crises.

A cardiologist is sent into retirement, but he feels at loss without his work. He returns to his home village to work as a general practitioner. This is the start of his ordeal: he's confronted with raw reality, which finally brings him to his knees. But music has the last word.

If Tennessee Williams had written "Where's Poppa?" sans laughs, the resulting meller would resemble the fearlessly turgid, ironically titled "Tranquility," a risible variant on "Mommie Dearest." To his credit, opera director Robert Alfoldi gives the material his straight-faced all, and his thesps respond. Pic will actually play gangbusters to auds prepped for over-the-top mother-son shenanigans, with bold fest and cablers leading the charge.
Leading Magyar stage thesp Dorottya Udvaros stars as leading Magyar stage thesp Rebeka Weer, whose high-strung possessiveness comes from not having left the large apartment she shares with her obedient writer offspring Andor (Zalan Makranczi) for a decade. When Andor, who may or may not have been intimate with mom as a child, starts having athletic sex with sultry lover Eszter (Dorka Gryllus), he begins to dream of a life beyond the walls. Udvaros summons Shirley MacLaine, Makranczi is the soul of repression and Gryllus is good at being naked. Memorable moment: newly pregnant Eszter attempts to abort using a Christmas tree ornament. Tech standout is Gabor Valcz's lived-in flat; thunderous Paganini score redefines concept of sex and violins.
