该剧根据中情局资深官员Sandra Grimes和Jeanne Vertefeuille共同创作的畅销书《Circle of Treason: A CIA Account of Traitor Aldrich Ames and the Men He Betrayed》改编，书中记录了她们在冷战期间追踪中情局叛变特工Aldrich Ames的真实故事。
