The Lives of Others

The plot of The Lives of Others (which originated as the 2006 Oscar-winning film and is the basis for a highly anticipated West End play starring Keira Knightley) follows a dedicated Stasi officer who is ordered to spy on a successful playwright and his actress partner in 1984 East Berlin. As he listens in from an attic above, he becomes deeply absorbed in their lives, questioning the totalitarian system he serves.
