简介

In this reworking, the young German directors Jana Vetten and Jan-Christophe Gockel give nature and animals the leading role by taking the people, especially the men, out of the play and asking themselves: what is left then? And how can we restore our relationship with nature, after we have given it more space? Michael Pietsch (peaches&rooster) created unique puppets from stuffed animals that are brought to life by the dancers and actors from the NITE ensemble.

Shakespeare's character Macbeth is the archetype of the alpha male. The horror cocktail of lust for power, war and murderous ambition in the original play hides something important: nature resisting the incessant violence caused by humans. Images of horses, ravens, dark woods and witches keep coming back, but as extras.

It is the first time that Pietsch's puppets are brought to life not by himself, but by dancers. This results in a visual, radical and interdisciplinary adaptation of the original piece.

Jan-Christoph Gockel, Michael Pietsch and Jan Vetten have collaborated many times in the creation of adult performances in which puppets play an important role.
Again and again they look for ways to give the power of breathing life into dead matter theatrical meaning in their performances. In EXIT Macbeth, the symbiosis of the animal's body and that of the performer plays a more important role: who is in charge of whom?

But also: can we breathe new life into something that we have destroyed or killed as humans? It is precisely this interdisciplinary way of thinking about movement, theatre and puppetry that prompted the NNT to collaborate with these special makers.
