本片是由美国当代最伟大的音乐剧词曲作家史帝芬。桑坦(STEPHEN SONDHEIM)所创作的著名音乐剧。
【拜访森林】汇集了格林童话中“杰克与魔豆”、“灰姑娘”、“小红帽”、“长发姑娘”四个脍炙人口的故事与角色，并套上讽刺剧的面纱而组成一个“成人童话故事”，其中蕴涵的“教育”意味均以故事中的经验教训带出，且不时出现令人爆笑的对话。
原本互不相千的四剧主角们，在作者巧妙的串联下，涉入对方的生活。另外，桑坦更颠覆了童话故事中“从此幸福快乐”(Happily ever after)的典型结局，延伸探讨到在“很久很久以前...”之后，主角们又发生了什么样的事情？
