Fun but frustratingly incomplete

It's the Meiji era and Japan is rapidly modernizing. Desperate for funds to get his family cholera treatment, a man from the former samurai class answers an ad gathering similarly disenfranchised warriors to Kyoto. He finds himself enmeshed in a cross-country "Battle Royale"-style deathmatch that includes a number of enemies from his past.

Six episodes long, this is a fast-paced and fun series packed with action. But viewers should go going in that despite the limited cast of characters, fairly narrow scope of the premise, and six hours of runtime, the story is not resolved at the end of the final episode. Nope, viewers will have to wait for Season Two or maybe even beyond that, depending on how far things get extended.
