The Poughkeepsie Tapes - Review

While I mostly enjoyed this mockumentary/found footage film about the hunt for a serial killer, the premise of viewing a serial killer's home videos led me to expect a much more disturbing movie than was actually delivered. It ended up being more of a "tell, don't show" film that mostly shied away from graphic violence, even with the distancing effect of grainy, poor quality VHS tapes. The framing interviews with police, media, victim's families, etc., made it feel like an episode of Unsolved Mysteries or even A Current Affair. There are some nicely creepy elements and menacing dialogue, but overall it felt like the movie didn't follow through on its premise.
