The Earth Dies Screaming (1964)

This one felt strangely cozy and low-stakes for a post-apocalyptic survival film. Perhaps it's the ensuing 50-plus years of films that have expanded on this basic premise, or the bucolic English village setting, or the ease with which our heroes overcome the alien(?) robot menace, or some combination thereof that made it seem that way. When compared to similar American fare of just a few years later (Night of the Living Dead comes to mind), the contrast in stakes seems pretty big. But I guess the best comparison might be to the TV anthology shows like Twilight Zone and Outer Limits that came along a bit earlier, or even to the contemporaneous Doctor Who serials featuring the Cybermen or Ice Warriors.
