One of my top albums of 2025

My recent musical explorations have focused on doom metal, with occasional dalliances with adjacent genres like stoner rock and desert rock. Yawning Balch is apparently a desert rock supergroup formed by the band Yawning Man and guitarist Bob Balch of Fu Manchu. After the song "Winter Widow" was featured on The Doom & Stoned Show podcast, I was motivated to seek out this full album, which turned out to be one of my most-listened of 2025. Meandering improvised instrumental psychedelic rock isn't my usual choice of music, but for some reason this album really hit right with me.

The music is very impressionistic, it's hard to single out single motifs or melodies, it just sort of drifts and flows as a whole, creating a hallucinatory soundscape. Perfect music to zone out to.
