You have to acknowledge the fact that this move changed the landscape of this genre - to the extent of actually creating it's own genre. But other than that... We're never given an explanation for Michaels behavior, other than that he's pretty much evil incarnate. Nor are we given an explanation for his killing spree (although I think some of these things are explained in later movies). And setting the ending up so we have to see the sequel... That's just immoral movie making as far as I'm concerned. Shame on you, mr. Carpenter!
