Squandered potential

The Monster Project (2017)This found-footage horror movie involves a small group of YouTube creators who gather a trio of self-described "real monsters" at a haunted house in the hopes of filming something exciting for their channel. They end up with a Japanese girl who complains of demonic possession, a hot vampire chick, and a man who calls himself a shape-shifting "skinwalker." Before long the YouTubers are running around the house with their night vision cameras, trying to escape the very real monsters. The premise is fun, but the back half of the movie is like every other found footage movie you've ever seen. The monsters all look pretty similar and basically just randomly and aimlessly pop out at the human characters like haunted house animatronics. The ending has the slightest of twists, but again, it's nothing you haven't seen before.
