a review of 反叛的鲁路修剧场版1：兴道

This us a review for the movie adaptation. People who use film listings on letterboxd to rave about TV show are morons.  Rather than reimagining the story to be best told from the movie format- we instead get this break neck highlight real of moments from the show so as to not cut any character. In doing so, everything that makes the show endearing or interesting is lost. This was clearly done in order to reuse as many scenes from the original anime as possible. It’s just kind of boring? We don’t have time for anything that isn’t the most critical of mech fights. We don’t even really get a reveal of them as the Black Knights. And everything related to school is dropped as soon as possible. Why even have it at all? The answer is because it’s going to be plot-critical in the next movie so that the entire climax of the first season doesn’t need to be reworked. Similarly there are these random moments of Shirley following Lelouch that just don’t go anywhere. And don’t get me started on Suzaku. His relationship with Lelouch is barely explored - so when important plot beats surrounding it happen - they’re utterly hollow. Dreading watching the rest
