Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood - Review

(short review, possibly more thoughts to come.) I basically enjoyed this movie in the way that I enjoy most Tarantino films, but the longer I think about it the morning after, the more I wonder what the Manson/Tate material is even doing in this movie. It's not the first Tarantino movie/screenplay to feel like a wild, semi-pointless shaggy dog story, nor is it the first to deal with an actual historical tragedy. But it would have been interesting if Tarantino had actually engaged with the context behind the Manson family's ideology instead of just turning them into comical slasher villains, and if maybe if Robbie's admittedly beguiling take on Sharon Tate got to be a real character instead of just a walking target for the entire film.
