Surprisingly decent

The Unholy - Review

When a deaf girl recovers her hearing through the intercession of a spirit calling itself "Mary," people flock to her small New England town seeking further miracles. It's obvious to the viewer from the start that the source of these miracles is a centuries-dead woman executed for witchcraft that has been carelessly unleashed by a disgraced journalist. Initially both the journalist and the Catholic church have an incentive to go along with the miracle story, but the journalist gradually becomes aware of a darker side to the phenomena.

This PG-13 "horror" movie is unsurprisingly lacking in scares or interesting gore, but an unusual amount of effort was put into the plot for a movie of this type. Jeffrey Dean Morgan puts in a good performance, and Cary Elwes' Boston accent is goofy but kinda fun.
