In the aftermath of my Teletext experiments on Amiga – which I totally believed to be a world’s first breakthrough – blog reader Martin contacted me to tell me about his own Teletext experiments back in 1992, with a working solution in 1994, making his setup probably the real world’s first Teletext output directly from the Amiga!

We’re sad to report that Team17 co-founder Martyn Brown has passed away. He was 57.

Brown helped establish the veteran British publisher in 1990 following the merger of 17-Bit Software and Swedish developer Team 7. Brown led Team17 alongside Michael Robinson, Debbie Bestwick, Andreas Tadic, Rico Holmes and Peter Tuleby.

He oversaw the company’s glory years as a developer, producing Amiga hits such as Alien Breed, Body Blows, Superfrog, Project X and Worms – the latter of which is arguably Team17’s most famous IP.

Haven’t tested it yet myself.

The Amiga is a real blind spot for me, but it’s home to a lot of shmups that have major cult followings. Glad to see the original devs supporting the fan-sequel in this way.

“The Amiga I made Worms on is all recapped and working again,” he says on social media. “Everything is also finally backed up.”

“So looks like I’ll be getting back into games development,” adds Davidson, before saying that he has plans to expand the iconic Director’s Cut of the game. “I have a Worms DC update to finish… will be an update to that which makes it feature-complete and adds some other stuff as well.”
