There are clearly many reasons why people are switching to Vivaldi. Interestingly, my little survey shows that the top reasons have more to do with our values than particular features.

The #1 reason (77%) is the fact that we do not have built in AI. #2 is that we do not build profiles on our users (67%). #3 is that we are made in Europe. #4 and #5 is that we do not build in Crypto currencies and the built in ad and tracker blocker.

We will continue to listen to our users. We have chosen a different path to our competitors and we continue to try to do the right thing.

Ha, good that I'm still a registered android developer, so my protest hopefully also tells that people aren't happy.

I moved my #bluesky account successfully to #leafplaza, a European derivative on #eu servers.

I did the movement not by myself, because my BS-Account was too huge (30 GB+), so the wonderful Leaf Plaza-Support helped me and did the movement overnight manually.

The Leaf Plaza App for #android and #ios is available for free in the app stores. There will be an #ipad version in the future too.

What's missing is a web front-end, but it will happen in the near future ...

Google is marching ahead in locking down Android, via its developer registration mandate.

I am hopeful that we will find a way - through regulatory intervention or otherwise - to preserve software freedom on Android, including for apps available via @fdroidorg , but I am not overly optimistic.

(Sure, it doesn't affect non-Google Android, but that is irrelevant to many, many Android users.)

#drogieFedi Szukam osoby chętnej do przejęcia tłumaczenia na język polski aplikacji Pachli, klienta Mastodona dla Androida.

Sam właściwie przestałem używać Pachli (przestawiłem się na PWA z Phanpy), więc i motywacja do dalszej pracy nad nim bardzo się mi zmniejszyła, tym bardziej, że i tak mam sporo pracy przy innych tłumaczeniach.

Techniczna strona przekładu jest dość prosta, bo odbywa się w wygodnym interfejsie Weblate¹, który opisałem na blogu².

Apka aktualnie jest spolszczona w 100%, więc cała praca to przekładanie raz na jakiś czas nowych ciągów, które się pojawiają w trakcie rozwoju.

Nowe wersje Pachli wychodzą zawsze pod koniec miesiąca, a trochę wcześniej można sprawdzić nowe teksty w wersji rozwojowej Pachli Current³, dostępnej w Google Play, co pozwala na poznanie kontekstu, w jakim występują.

Jeżeli ktoś się zdecyduje, to chętnie pomogę i odpowiem na pytania związane z tłumaczeniem.

Am I the only one having issues with the Aurora #Android app? Updating & installing apps seems broken.

I'm using V4.8.3 on LineageOS 22.2 (Android 15) & on Iodé 7.6 (Android 16). The latter returns "Unable to parse TLS packet header" the older Android phone attempts to download & silently fails. It does not matter if I use a Google account or an anonymous account.

Are you able to update/install apps with Aurora?

Fucking "app culture" drives me crazy. I got asked to install a mobile app just to look at the itinerary and accommodation information for a trip I'm going on.

Why isn't it just a web page?

So obviously I said "fuck that noise, hold my beer", reverse-engineered the app, and re-implemented it as a web page generator. It does all the same things as the "app" except now there's no tracking, no ads, and you get all the Web's features "for free" (deep links, copy-pasting, search-in-page, printing, works on anything, etc.).

Viste le recenti derive sulla privacy sto sempre più prendendo in considerazione di utilizzare un sistema Android libero.
Purtroppo, mi sembra di aver capito, questi sistemi non hanno una grande compatibilità hardware per cui riescono a girare solo su alcuni dispositivi.

#Google is going to close down #Android platform, making installing "unverified" apps almost impossible for a regular user. This would completely kill #FDroid, something I rely on to get apps that don't track me, don't show me ads and don't try to exploit me.

If you care about #FreeSoftware, you should care about this. Maybe with enough public uproar, Google like many other corporations before it will back off from this plan. But it certainly won't happen on it's own.

My favorite Mastodon app, Fedilab, is no longer on Google Play, but you can still get it from F-Droid.

You can import your old settings, too. It's easy and only takes a few minutes. I'm not an experienced F-Droid user, but everything went smoothly...
