"Ameisen" steht in der #Bücherwabe für die These von Bayo Akomolafe, dass wir hinsichtlich der Denkwege, die unsere Lebens- und Wirtschaftsform bestimmen, in einer tödlichen Logik gefangen sind, wie Ameisen in einer #Ameisenmühle: Ameisen folgen den Duftspuren ihrer Vorgänger und laufen im Kreis bis sie sterben.

Loved it. Zyll is hilarious. A bit more action and less cozy than the first two, but still a great book.
Going to start this book today. Seems timely. The eBook is free.

I have uploaded .pdf copies of both editions of The Complete Norwegian Folktales and Legends of Asbjørnsen & Moe to ko-fi, where they are now available for purchase at less-than-half the cost of the Amazon paperback books.
Details and links on my Website here:
https://norwegianfolktales.net/books/the-complete-norwegian-folktales-and-legends-of-asbjornsen-moe
I think you should choose the annotated edition; here’s what you get:
1. Three chunky volumes (815 pages, 617 pages, and 665 pages).
2. Original prefaces from eight editions.
3. Jørgen Moe’s substantial introduction to the folktales, in which he discusses the origins of folk narratives, and how the Norwegian material exemplifies his ideas.
4. All 122 folktales Asbjørnsen & Moe published during their careers.
5. 28 hulder tales and folk legends, a genre Asbjørnsen defined, in which he embeds the legends of the hidden folk.
6. Approximately 350 illustrations by some of the most accomplished artists Norway has known, including Hans Gude, Erik Werenskiold and Theodor Kittelsen.
7. Asbjørnsen & Moe’s notes on the folktales, which detail the variant(s) the collectors used to compose each folktale, sketch out other variants they collected, and compare the Norwegian folktales with similar traditions from other regions.
8. Newly-researched editor’s notes, which identify the collector responsible for the composition of each text, give collection data, including tale type, geographical origin, collector, informant, and date of collection, sketch biographical details of informants, where known, give previous publication and translation details, trace historical and literary sources, and draw attention to points of particular interest.
9. Editor’s prefaces to each volume, which trace the publication history of the original volumes represented, as well as previous translations.
10. Comprehensive – perhaps even exhaustive – bibliographies to each volume.

Smashwords is having a huge sale on books this month. There are over a hundred thousand discounted or free titles to choose from, including the book I reviewed earlier today.
I won’t be sharing my usual lists of free books each week this month as there are far too many to choose from. 😂
if you’re interested in getting some new books on sale or for free, go to: https://www.smashwords.com
As much as I apporve of this creativity. If you have a book you don't want (I know but it could happen, theoretically) give it to a thriftstore, that's where I get most of my books 😁

The idea: Having art small enough for a handbag or hanged on a wall. 'Writing' a #book that can't get copied by AI or people - but can be inspiring for others.
Materials: A vintage wooden bobbin, tea-dyed coton flannel, #teaBags, #sareeSilk scraps, #lace, #embroidery, glass rocailles.

Introducing the Tinker WriterDeck OS!
Convert any laptop and most chromebooks into a writer deck: A device designed solely for writing.
No distractions.
No internet.
No apps. No games. No social media.
Just writing.
The Tinker WriterDeck is very light weight and specifically seeks to lower the barrier of entry to creating writer decks. It converts older, reused, refurbished, or inexpensive laptops into a dedicated writing machine.
A digital typewriter.
The Tinker WriterDeck sits on top of a "headless" Debian Linux image and boots directly into a console based text editor.
We're using the Tilde Text Editor because it is a simple text editor, has an intuitive User Interface, and allows for customized color schemes for light and dark modes.
Operating System download and instructions on how to convert your laptop into a dedicated writer deck for free are found here: https://tinker.sh
See below for an example of the writer deck in light mode and dark mode.
If anyone has any questions or needs any help setting your laptop up, let me know here!

Very late start, but it's time for a 2026 thread of books I read. Heather Fawcett was excellent (although book 1 was better). Andrew Cartmel was on form. Elle Hartford was sweet seashorecore (if that's a thing!) & Laura Laakso was an excellent start to a new to me crime fantasy series with an mc with chronic pain. #amreading #books #bookstodon

How did I go for so long not knowing there was a book? Granted I didn't even get around to watching the movie until this year...
Similar stories, but still very different. The book is the more cozy of the two. A fun, quick read.
¡Buenas grumetes!
Even though you may have missed the beginning of advent, it is still possible to catch up.
Christmas in Norway, 2025 is a slim tome of 24 texts, one for each day of December until Christmas Eve, when preparations cease and the day is celebrated with gifts, good food, and (above all) good company.
