Thanks to our Outreachy intern Malika, in GNOME 51, Document Viewer now supports visual signatures, useful for quickly signing paperwork! You don't need any special hardware or certificates, just draw your signature, or you can import one.
Malika gave a talk on GUADEC about this feature, if you're curious! 👉️ https://tube.kockatoo.org/w/5e1eAf54gueceY5JVRN4qM
GNOME 51 released! Look forward to faster screen recordings, an Auto Rotate option for screens with accelerometers, offline maps, and much more.

We spent the last 6 months polishing the experience, to make it more accessible and more user-friendly. Unlike the current tech industry, we go slow and fix things! (1/3)
If you REALLY want to stick it to companies knowingly funding fashtech, consider becoming a Friend of @gnome! There’s a convenient $50/month option in case you’re not planning to drop $3 million on something else. Or, you know, any amount helps. 😉
Our work in the #LibreOffice project is mostly online – but we like to join in-person events too. Last month we were at FrOSCon in Germany, handing out cool merch and answering questions about our web and mobile development plans: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2026/09/21/libreoffice-at-froscon-2026/ #foss #opensource #freesoftware

New in #LibreOffice 26.8: Relative font sizes – Calc cell styles can now use relative font sizes, making style management more flexible across large spreadsheets. https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/26.8 #foss #opensource #freesoftware
🚨 ALERT 🚨 for all #FOSS projects out there which get donations via PayPal.
In the last 2 days we've gotten several donations (some as "purchase") ranging from 250 → 500 USD. Always same amount as USD (which was suspicious since we rarely get USD).
The trick of the cheaters: They will open a "Paypal Buyers protection" case and if you just send back the money rather than "cancelling" the real transaction, they will get the money twice...
Suggestion: Mark it as fraud and let Paypal resolve it.

GrapheneOS is overhauling its default apps, adding RCS support and end-to-end encryption to its messaging app. 🔐
It also plans a secure clipboard to prevent apps from accessing clipboard contents without permission. 📱

GrapheneOS says it cannot complete its Pixel 11 port after Google dropped ARM Memory Tagging Extension support. 🔐
The project requires MTE for GrapheneOS support and may skip Pixel 11 devices entirely. 📱

#askFedi Do you know of speech-to-text live transcription models that:
1. perform OK for lightly technical English speech, in near-real-time,
2. have available (ideally libre/open-source) training data, libre/open-source training code, libre/open-source inference code, and/or libre/open-source weights (ideally some amount of freedom to use/study/modify/distribute; e.g. the Open Source AI Definition)
Glanced at:
april-asr: probably best candidate so far; somewhat below quality expectations on my laptop (tested with https://flathub.org/en/apps/net.sapples.LiveCaptions; quality/performance is configurable; maybe I should run it on a more powerful server and check if it's better?)
OpenAI Whisper: no training data/code
Vosk official model: not sure about training data/code, not sure about weights
Mozilla DeepSpeech: Archived
CoquiSTT: Looks abandoned
