After the events of Jan. 6, 2021, we sifted through thousands of videos taken by Parler users during the riot at the Capitol.
Then we created an interactive database that lets you sort through the footage.

* Part of the "Housecleaning (Things Left in My Mom's House)" series
Mom moved out of her house about four months ago. I have been spending a few hours every week organising things. Today I began the final leg of this journey: sorting her sewing room.
Throughout her life, she collected thousands of buttons of all shapes and colours. I'm finding it very difficult to decide what to do with this treasure trove…

This is cool - the prolonged dry weather has revealed the outline of ‘The Great Parterre’ beneath the South Lawn at #Chatsworth. It was a #garden created for the 1st Duke of Devonshire around 1699 and it disappeared beneath a new landscape in the 1730s. The hot, dry conditions created contrast between the shallower-rooted turf and the original garden layout, and have allowed its spectacular swirling patterns to re-emerge.

#art #history: can't resist a classic simone stink eye &, as i draw her every year on the anniversary of her birth, here's my tribute to her 'take no shit' glance.
most commonly associated with her seminal feminist oeuvre, 'the second sex', simone's philosophy was - true to its existential roots - humanist'; but it can be extended to all members of society, both human & non-human. in her words: 'one's life has value so long as one attributes value to the lives of others.'

Doftana Prison, Romania. This vast fortress-like penitentiary has housed inmates during some of the most turbulent periods in Romania’s history. Today, it stands derelict and collapsing, a haunting reminder of the terrible conditions offenders were once incarcerated in.

When Paris was paved with wooden cobblestones.
Passage Saint‑Maur still has a few of those wooden blocks left, some of the last in the city.
In the 1800s Paris used wood because it made the streets quieter, and it was cheaper to replace.
But most were removed because they rotted or became slippery, which is why the surviving ones in Passage Saint‑Maur are so rare.
