8:05‹ BooksBookhave been as influential and timeless as TheMythical Man-Month. With a blend of softwareengineering facts and thought-provokingopinions, Fred Brooks offers insight for anyonemanaging complex projects. These essays drawfrom his experience as project manager for theIBM System/360 computer family and then forOS/360, its massive software system. Now, 45years after the initial publication of his book,Brooks has revisited his original ideas and addednew thoughts and advice, both for readersalready familiar with his work and for readersdiscovering it for the first time. The addedchapters contain (1) a crisp condensation of allthe propositions asserted in the original book, including Brooks' central argument in TheMythical Man-Month: that large programmingprojects suffer management problems differentfrom small ones due to the division of labor; thatthe conceptual integrity of the product istherefore critical; and that it is difficult butpossible to achieve this unity; (2) Brooks' viewof these propositions a generation later; (3) areprint of his classic 1986 paper "No SilverBullet"; and (4) today's thoughts on the 1986assertion, "There will be no silver bullet withinten years."published 1995Addison-Wesley ProfessionalISBN 9780201835953GBP 26.99Paperback322 pagesin English
